New! By the makers of cFosSpeed: The cFos EVSE

Installation / Registration / Uninstall

Installation

Installation of cFos is easy and convenient, taking only a few steps:

  • Download the latest cfos-nt-2000-xp-vXXX.exe file and save it to your hard drive.
    (for cFos/Win: cFos-win9x-me-vXXX.exe)
  • Execute the file (cfos-nt-2000-xp-vXXX.exe) by double-clicking on it.
    (for cFos/Win: cFos-win9x-me-vXXX.exe)
  • The install assistant will then guide you through the rest of the instalation process.
  • cFos can be used immediately after successful installation.

Licensing

Start cFos-win9x-me-vXXX.exe 'cFos/Win' or cfos-nt-2000-xp-vXXX.exe 'cFos NT/2000/XP.' to install the program.
At this point, you should choose a target directory for your cFos installation.
Now click on 'Install.'
(If you already have a version of cFos installed on your PC, setup will inquire if you want to replace it.
If you do, select 'Update' to continue installation.)
cFos licensing conditions will now appear. We ask that you please read them carefully!
If you agree to these terms, select 'Agree' and then 'Next.'

Medium Selection

Now pick the medium (DSL, ISDN or both) you want to use. For ISDN, you will also have to enter your MSN in the appropriate space.
("MSN" is the telephone number -without area code- for which you are billed. In case you have several such numbers, you can choose for which one you want to be charged. Strictly speaking, this space could be left empty in most instances, but there are a few phone setups that do require you to enter an MSN. Check your setup manual, if you aren't sure if this applies to yours or if your calls aren't being relayed).
Proceed by clicking 'Next.'

COM Port Selection

Setup will now ask you to which COM port(s) you want to assign cFos. Ports already in use cannot be selected!
Make your choice(s) and click 'Next.'
In case there are no COM ports available, they are probably being used by other software (like TELES VCOMM or RVS-COM), which you may want to uninstall.

Advanced Features

You can now choose which cFos features you want activated.
Please note that during use you can also add parameters to the cFos parameter line at any time.
A complete list of all commands and parameters can be found under Options.
Click on 'Next.'
HINT: You can enter the COM-ports in the 'additional parameters' box instead of the COM1-COM9 check boxes. This may be useful if COM1-COM9 are already in use by other software.

Start Installation

Setup will now display a summary of your selections.
Confirm these by clicking 'Install,' which will launch the actual installation sequence.
NOTE: Setup will add appropriate modem types directly to the Windows Manager during installation.

Once this process has been completed, you can leave setup by clicking 'OK.'
If you wish, cFos will now assist you in setting up DUN connections and installing a special dialer protection.
Select the appropriate buttons and then click 'OK.'

Installing an ISDN/DSL Connection

Enter a name, user name, password, and telephone number (ISDN only) for each connection.
If you want 'Automatic connection,' this is where you should enable it.
You can select existing user profiles or pick a new provider for your ISDN/DSL connection (keep in mind though that -depending on the provider you choose- additional fees may be charged upon login).
To use DSL, you must also have any external devices needed to establish such a high-speed connection. Please ask your DSL provider for details.

Installing Dialer Protection

cFos offers protection against expensive dialer programs for Internet login that certain Web sites may install on your computer! To this end, cFos has a so-called "blocker" check all active DUN connections for their dial-in numbers. This lets you create a list of numbers that will either result in immediate disconnection or a brief warning during login.
Presets:
By default, any number with a 0190 or 0900 prefix is designated as "forbidden." The standard warning list contains nearly all 0180 and 0137 numbers, since most other Internet connection numbers are much cheaper these days. Exceptions include 01801 numbers with charges lower than 5 cents per minute and 01802 numbers that charge a flat 6 cents per call. International numbers (i.e., numbers starting with "00") are listed here as well.
You can ADD or REMOVE numbers from these lists at any time.

Note: It's not necessary to restart your system after installing cFos NT/2000/XP or cFos/Win. Both can be used immediately after installation.
